Starting my first Inktober challenge

I have decided to take part in the entire Inktober challenge this year for the first time. the reason I want to do this is to get better at art and to see if I can come up with ideas from the daily prompts.

I’ve never done anything like this before, except NaNoWriMo which is a writing Challenge for a whole month.

Ink and dip pens have never been on my wish list, so I am excited to see what I can create with them. I have also bought a new sketchbook from Sea-white and look forward to using that too.

Because I had no idea if the products I bought are going to be any good, I didn’t want to splash out too much money as it was my first time using the medium.

So the brand I went for was Furnizone stars and dreams ink set with glass dip pens.

It says that it is ideal for beginners so that is a huge plus for me.

The box that the inks came in was a pretty purple colour and they were displayed beautifully. Although, each ink didn’t have a colour name, so when I swatched them I had to give them numbers, which I wrote on the ink bottle too.

See the image below:

I had to shake the bottles in order to mix the gold shimmer in with the colour and it was really messy opening each one. Each bottle had a rubber stopper, which was difficult to remove and the ink got all over my hands. (By the way, it took two days to get my hands clean afterwards).

The dip pens were not up to scratch at all. They didn’t hold much ink and didn’t get much colour onto the paper either. However, the colours were really nice and vibrant and when they dried they had a subtle gold shimmer to them.

My plans are still going ahead to use the inks for Inktober, but instead of using the dip pens, I will use a paintbrush.

The ink and wash style is still something that I would like to try, but I don’t think the sweet dreams set will be any good for that: I think I will buy a better quality ink next time.

The prompt list has been printed and glued to the inside of my sketchbook so that it’s easy to refer to each day and I am ready to go.

I have also created a Pinterest board called “Inktober inspiration 20-22”, So I can refer to that to get some ideas of what to draw.

I must say I am really excited to take part in this challenge and I will definitely be blogging about it at a later date.
