A month in the life of a book group

I run a motivational book group called “Feed the mind” over on Facebook and thought it would be a good idea to share with you what makes my book group special.

What’s included in the group:

  • Book of the month
  • Monday Musings
  • Monday worksheet/action steps
  • Member of the month
  • Coffee and a chat Thursday’s @ 7 pm

The most important part of the group is the members of course, but equally important is the book choice of the month.

This month we are reading “Ikigai: the Japanese secret to a long and happy life”

You can buy the book here: Ikigai the book

I chose this book because it is such an easy read and can actually be read in a short space of time. Even though it is a quick read, each week there will be a worksheet on the theme of Ikigai. So even after the book has been finished, there will be action steps that the members can implement.

Every Monday I offer my own musings on what I have read so far and I give the members a chance to discuss their own findings and words of wisdom taken from the book.

The simple worksheets are just an extra bit of fun. There are no hard and fast rules and members don’t have to complete the exercises if they don’t want to.

At the end of September this year we had a new feature called “Member Of The Month”. This is to showcase the member who has been most active in the group and has engaged with all the posts. The prize is a free printable from my Etsy store that is in line with what we have been reading.

The member who won this month was delighted with her gift and that made me happy.

We have just introduced a “coffee and a chat” in the Facebook room function of the group and this is now held every Thursday evening at 7 pm. The time is used to discuss the book of the month and how we are getting on overall. It is also a great place to connect with other members and create new friendships. A place also, to keep us sane in these difficult times at present and to offer up suggestions for the group: after all, the group is for the members. So it makes sense for them to suggest ideas.

I am always thinking up new ways to inject a bit of fun, creativity, uniqueness and a sense of community into the group.

With that said, I am opening the doors for new members to join. It is totally free to join. The only money you would need to spend and only if you wish is the money for the book of the month.

Next month: November 1st we will be reading a great book that has got loads of people talking about it: to be announced within the group and with plenty of time to purchase. This is one book that I am excited to read.
