Use and Grow an Inspiration Wall

Pablo Picasso has been quoted with stating, “Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.” Inspiration comes in many forms, sometimes we must look outside ourselves for inspiration, and other times inspiration comes from within, almost like a volcano bursting through hard rock, it bubbles up from within the inner workings of our minds, bodies, and souls.

As humans we tend to be very visual in our interpretations, experiences, story telling, and creations. Even those who create things in the form of music have taken to describing their work in a way which emulates a visual experience. Everyone should have some type of an inspirational wall, board, or folder within their home or in their work space.

An inspiration wall can help in many ways, whether it be through aiding in the push towards a persons goals, helping in the creative process, or even simplifying the daily grind of everyday life. An inspiration wall helps bring forth a visualisation of what you are working towards, what you want to be, or what you believe yourself to be.

Art has many interpretations, and one can stare at the same piece day in and day out and see something different each and every time they glance at it. Why? Because our mood, our experiences, and our mindset are always in constant flux. Changing the way we see and visualise the world.

5 Ways to utilise and grow an inspiration wall:

Step 1: Choose a wall that you will look at every day.

Step 2: Fill it either with words or pictures that inspire you, make you think, make you feel happy, and make you wonder. These can be words or pictures you have written and/or created or they can also be words and pictures put together by others that cause you to feel and do all of the aforementioned things.

Step 3: Every day spend 10-20 minutes looking at your wall, you don’t have to look at each and every item on the wall, but look deeply at at least one. Meditate on what you are seeing, whether its a word, phrase, or image.

Step 4: Once you have finished meditating, take action. If you have a goal you are trying to achieve then go work on that goal. If you are creative and looking for inspiration, go and start working on your craft. If you are simply wanting to enjoy your life a little more, go forward and enjoy your life, keeping those positive vibrations flowing forward and out to those around you.

Step 5: Do not be afraid to change out the images and words on your wall. If you find you are no longer in love or gaining anything from a particular piece change it out for something new and fresh.

Geri Weitzman a psychologist once said “Sometimes you gotta create what you want to be a part of.” An inspiration wall is a perfect stepping stone towards creating the future you wish to achieve. It provides a source for you to refer to over and over again, a source that can either remain consistent or evolve as you choose it to.
