5 creative ways to display art in the Kitchen

Lemon Art Print

The kitchen is the one room that I would always forget when I was buying art for the home. I never knew where to put it. But having done a lot of research into the subject I have started trying out new ways to display art in my kitchen. So I threw out the rule book (if there ever was one to start with) and started getting creative.

So here are my top 5.

1/ Gallery wall

If you have just one wall that is big enough then this really does look good in a kitchen. I haven’t got a big enough wall to do this in my kitchen but I do have a lot of space above my window so I am in the process of creating some of my own art for it.

My definition of a gallery wall is grouping a number of pictures together that you love and making it a focal point in a room.

2/ Make use of shelf space

Most kitchens have shelves and what a great way to display the art of your choice. You can just prop the art up without having to hammer any nails or stick blue tack to the walls. I have done this with vintage Alice in Wonderland postcards and loved the effect.

3/ window sills

This is the space that usually holds the washing up liquid or hand soap (well most of the kitchens I have been in do any way) But wouldn’t it be much better by adding art in pretty frames along this space. Having something nice to look at while washing the dishes will make it less of a chore and more of a pleasant experience: well I think it would anyway!

4/ Cupboard doors

Recently I laminated a well used recipe for bread and hung it on the outside of my kitchen cupboard above the space where I bake. Everytime I get the urge to bake from that recipe it is right there in front of me. But it doesn’t have to be recipes it can be anything you like as long as it unframed and it gives you viewing pleasure. I like the idea of having positive quotes stuck to the doors to keep you feeling happy all day.

5/ Fridge

We have all done it haven’t we? One of the kids brings home a painting they have done in school and we stick it to the fridge with a magnet. I love fridges that are adorned with art work the kids have done over the years. It doesn’t have to be kids art work it can be anything you like. I had a phase of putting postcards on my fridge like the vintage postcard of Alice I mentioned earlier but you see what I mean?

I would love to know how you display art in your kitchen. Post your pics in the comments section below and let us all get some inspiration from each other.
